Meet the Expert. As the name implies, P90X is a day workout program. It makes sense, then, that this workout system was made for those looking to get muscular fast and who are committed through the duration without fail. These workouts are intentionally difficult and will push your limits regularly. Though some of the exercises will be familiar to you, the number of repetitions and variations may not be.

And there are certain elements, such as the plyometrics workout, that will have you jumping for nearly an hour. That may be wholly new to even those who are experienced with exercise.

It boasts a circuit-style fitness routine of high-intensity workouts that will push both your physical body and mentality to their limits in order to succeed. P90X is a set of twelve DVDs, a page fitness guide, an even longer nutrition plan, and a calendar to track your progress along the way. Variety is key with P90X. Not only is there variety in class type, but there are also three different schedule options, Borovilos says: Classic, Lean, and Doubles. P90X workouts are circuit-oriented.

You should expect to move for most of each session, with minimal time resting in between rounds while cycling through various exercises. Borovilos tells us that to achieve optimal results, you have to push your limits. Because there are so many types of workouts involved, you may find yourself short on equipment.

While the program offers a resistance band variation, Borovilos says that may be too easy for some and suggests using TRX as an alternative. While there are numerous modalities in P90X, the focus is on visible muscles. P90X is set up for six workouts per week. On the seventh day of each week, you can either rest or do a stretching video. Thus, it is best for people who can make a serious time commitment to their workouts.

People who are already in good physical shape will reap the most benefits from P90X, more so than those looking to get into shape. What type of results can I expect from the P90X program? Most at home workout programs require using little to no equipment other than proper workout attire, a workout mat and a DVD player. P90X differs from most other workout series in that quite a bit of equipment is necessary and it must be purchased in advance to beginning the program.

Depending on your strength and ability, you will need dumbbells or resistance bands and a chin up or pull up bar as well. If you opt for weights versus resistance bands, they should vary from five to fifty pounds. If you plan to do this workout on the road while traveling or at work during your lunch break, it may be better to use resistance bands since they are easy to pack and take with you.

Resistance bands are also much cheaper and can be just as effective, especially if you are just starting out with strength training. The chin up bar can be any type that attaches on a door frame or is suspended from other exercise equipment in your home. All of this equipment can be purchased at a local sporting goods store or be ordered in one of the packages offered with the P90X program.

In order to truly succeed with any fitness program, you will need to dedicate yourself to it completely. This includes doing the workouts with the utmost amount of effort, completing all of the required workouts each week and following the diet that accompanies the program without deviating from it.

Committing to an exercise program can be very demanding, especially with a busy work schedule, a family and other responsibilities. In order to complete the entire 90 days on P90X, you will have to block out time each day, most days of the week, to complete the hour or so long workouts. If you will be too tired or too busy after work, make sure you set your alarm in the morning and get it done before you leave the house.

This is usually the best way to make sure you do not skip a workout and begin to slack off. Some of the exercises in each video may be so difficult that you physically cannot complete them all.

Your main focus should be on proper form and you should never sacrifice form just to complete the set. Will P90x get results if you do it? Yes absolutely, but it is by far one of the least optimal approaches to losing weight. When it comes to fat loss, one of the best approaches to working out is to simply train times per week to mainly preserve muscle mass, and to let your diet create the majority of the calorie deficit and burn fat.

Dieting is a lifestyle change but do you really want to live a lifestyle where you have to eat every hours on the clock and can only eat a specific list of foods. You want to live a life where ice cream and doughnuts are regularly involved.

His approach makes it super flexible and easy to lose fat. People in category 1 are typically the beginners. Those in category 2 have probably already tried losing weight in the past with no success. Perhaps they went to the gym and had no idea what they were doing or perhaps they had a bad experience with a personal trainer that touched them in weird places.

Now they simply want to stay in the comfort of the home and maybe give this P90x thing a shot. Category 3 people are those who are already familiar with working out but want to give themselves more of a challenge. To be completely honest, the only people who should do P90x are category 3 people. If you find yourself in category 1 or 2, P90x is going to be overkill for you.

There are much better options out there. If you follow P90x to the letter, you will get results. You will lose weight and look better, guaranteed. There are just so many more effective and simple options out there. There are a ton of great options but one of my favorite programs is Bodyweight Burn by Adam Steer.

I work out with a friend and we have a difference of opinion on exercise technique. I use a band to assists and try to do slow reps with full extension and no momentum. Proper diet no cheats etc.
